Weekly Nails: Doctor Who Series: The Daleks

So this week was supposed to be the 9th Doctor, but he is seriously lacking in distinctive qualities that would translate well into nail art, so I'll be back to him. This week is the Daleks. I really love the way my thumb turned out. The plan was to have the eyestalk in as well, but as you can see I ran out of room. When I redo this design, I'd do a black french tip across all of them. I still like how it turned out though.

To get the bumps (I dunno what else to call them) I painted nail pearls black with acrylic paint. There will be a post shortly about how I did that.

What I used:
Orly Nail Defense (base)
OPI in You Rock-Apulco Red
Zoya in Pippa
Forever 21 in Surf Blue
Zoya in Arizona
Orly French Tips in White Tips
StripeRite in black
Seche Vite Topcoat

Weekly Nails: Doctor Who Series: The 10th Doctor

This is my nail design for my favorite Doctor, David Tennant. One of the many things I love about his character is the way he dresses, the suit with Chucks....LOVE! I put in my second favorite quote/text/saying "Don't Blink". I love that episode. My absolute favorite quote/saying is "Bad Wolf", but that really belongs to the 9th Doctor, so you will be seeing it soonish...if I can figure out what I'm going to do for the rest of my nails. And of course the Tardis.

I'm sort of happy with how these turned out. I just really need to find a good white nail pen to do the text in. Its just not perfect enough for me with a brush. If you have any recommendations please let me know in the comments!

Forever 21 Nail Polish Haul

I found out two weeks ago that you could order Forever 21 nail polish from their website, I found this out while I was on a hunt for a dupe to one of their old blue polishes. My little sister had given me this blue polish from about two years ago, that she only used once, and it quickly became my absolute favorite blue polish. Its a solid true blue, no glitter, sparkles, shimmer...nothing. I love it. Since Forever 21 rarely has the same items two weeks in a row, I didn't even bother checking to see if they still had it. However after several unfortunate hunts, I tried their website. They have SO many colors! And each polish is only $2.80. I love the Forever 21 polish, its mostly surprisingly good quality. Every once in awhile some of their formulas are a bit thin, but for under $3, its not really a big risk.

As it turns out, they do still have the exact same blue color (old on the left, new on the right). The thing is, if you have a polish from the store, the name on the label isn't the same as the color listed on the website. It is really quite irritating, however I put little stickies on the top with the website names so I can reorder them if I want.

Alrighty these are with three coats of polish and a topcoat. And please pardon the sad state my cuticles are in. Its been a rough couple of weeks for them.  Names from left to right (website name/store name):

Night Sky/Dark Blue
Blue Bolt/Blue (Favorite!)
Surf Blue/Blue
Cobalt/Bright Cobalt

The Cobalt Blue and Surf Blue had a really great formula. I really only needed two coats to get a complete coverage. The Blue Bolt which was the repurchase had a thinner formula than before. It definitely needed the three coats. It's still my favorite blue though. Night Sky had a really nice formula too, especially for a glitter polish.

Shimmering Navy/Navy
Silver Coating/Grey-Silver
Silver Sparkle/Sliver
Tinsel Party/Purple-Multi

Shimmering Navy was fantastic. With only one coat it was incredibly opaque. This barely needed two coats. The shimmer in it is really pretty too, it's got a tiny bit of silver shimmer in with the blue. I was unimpressed with Silver Coating. It is a nice color, but it came out too streaky. Silver Sparkle is nice. It has a great glitter to polish ratio. And finally Tinsel Party, this is really cool too. Again it has a great glitter to polish ratio, with just the three coats its almost opaque. It will look gorgeous over black.

Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Including shipping it was about $35, which is a steal for eight bottles of nail polish. I highly recommend you check this out if you need good, cheap nail polish. Let me know in the comments if you have a favorite Forever 21 polish!

Weekly Nails: Two Blue Nail Polishes

I am currently on the hunt for a new solid blue nail polish. Ideally a dupe for the Forever 21 polish I used last week for part of my Doctor Who logo. The one I have now is the consistency of glue and about a quarter of the bottle left. It is the perfect blue. It is surprisingly hard to find a blue that isn't glitter or shimmery. I thought I found the perfect one, Esse's Butler Please, but I absolutely hate it. It goes on super thick, its semi-matte cream formula (which wasn't in the seller's description), and it chipped super easily. I'm not a huge fan of Esse in general, so I wasn't shocked that I didn't like this polish. They are really hit or miss for me. But it was a major bummer because the color is really lovely.

This week wasn't a complete loss because I found out you can order the Forever 21 nail polish off of their website, which is super exciting. I ordered eight blue nail polishes from them....hopefully one of them is the same as the one I already have. They should arrive before Friday of next week, so hopefully I'll have some swatches and a new Doctor Who design for you next week.

This is Esse's Butler Please. I put a top coat on in stripes and polka-dots but it didn't really look to great. I took this off after only one day, mostly because about half of my nails had chipped off by then.

The rest of the week I had this on, sticking with my Blue theme. As a base I had an Urban Outfitter's polish in Blue-Tie, which is a almost black navy, and over the top I used OPI's Austin-Tatious Turquoise. I quickly put it on, so I'd have something on for work, but I really love this combination. It lasted very well too. No chips till day 5. I also got quite a few compliments on this as well. This will definitely be one of my "OMG I need something quick" combos.

Weekly Nails: Doctor Who Series: The 11th Doctor

Alrighty, I know I've been slacking on the updates, but my New Years resolution is to post updates twice a week. General/randomness on Mondays and nail art/nail polish on Fridays. Already I'm a bit late, but here is the first nail post.

I'm going backwards starting with Matt Smith. I'm not sure if I'll do all of them, but at least the three from the most recent series.

I decided to try galaxy nails for the first time, since the Doctor travels through space, and because I've been meaning to try them for awhile, but haven't gotten around to it. I don't have a good brown polish, so I just stuck with the bowtie, and then the newest logo.

It's too bad I didn't get a good picture before it chipped. I did it opening another bottle of polish...go figure.

And finally, my T.A.R.D.I.S. ring from It's amazing and I love it so much, however go a half size up from your normal size.

What I used:
Orly Nail Defense as a base
Seche Vite top coat

Thumb nail:
Forever 21 love & beauty in Blue
StripeRite in white

Ring Finger:
Orly French Tip in White Tips
Red permanent marker
Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in black

Galaxy Nails:
Finger Paints in Art of Theft as the base

The rest were sponged on in this order:
Orly French Tip in White Tips
China Glaze in Sky High-Top
OPI in Who the Shrek Are You
Zoya in Pippa
China Glaze in Tempest
Orly in Liquid Vinyl
OPI in Austin-tatious Turquoise
Zoya in Ziv
The Painted Nail Nail Lacquer by Nubar in Moon Drop Top Layer (not sponged, 2 coats)
