Alice in Wonderland Illustration

Just a little something I'm working on...

First I sketched out Alice, I then went in with Adobe Illustrator and outlined everything. I then imported the line work into Adobe Photoshop and filled everything in. Once Alice was done, I put the tiff file into illustrator and created the text and background.

It's not completely finished yet...I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but it still needs something.

Halloween Series: Easy Zombie Nails

I left these matte because I thought it looked more like skin, which was kinda cool. You can use any color for these, it would work especially well with a gross green color.

Rise of the Guardians Series: Tooth Fairy

This design is based off a concept image from The Art of The Rise of the Guardians. Each character was based off of a different shape, but they are all very geometric, which I think so beautiful. If you are an artist, I highly recommend compiling a collection of "Art of" books as inspiration or for reference. I find it really helps me when I'm lacking in ideas.

Halloween Series: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Ghoulie Girl

Unfortunatly, I was sick this week and didn't have the time/will to do anything cool, so this week is a review of the Sally Hansen Salon Effects. I had wanted to get these last year, but just didn't get around to it, so I ordered them in September.

What I liked:

  • They have different shapes on each edge, one is more rounded and one is more square to fit the different nail beds.
  • The different designs are really cute
  • Easy to apply

What I didn't like:

  • The widths were just not the right sizes for my nails. The jump from the pointer/ring finger size and the pinky size is just too large.
  • When smoothing out my fingerprints are visible in some parts
  • They wrinkled very easily.
  • The edges started lifting almost as soon as I put them on.
  • They tore very easily. I tore one pulling it off the backing.

Overall I'm very unimpressed, especially at how expensive they are. I had really high hopes for these, as every other nail sticker I have used came out really nicely. If you are going to splurge on a product like this I'd recommend the OPI ones.

Rise of the Guardians Series: Sandman

I absolutely love this movie! My little cousin convinced me to watch it when he had his "back to school" sleepover. I was pretty skeptical, as I am of most Dreamworks films, but it really blew me away. I loved the style of the characters, they are just genius. I can't wait to read the series. I'm a sucker for any plot based on kids believing, but what makes this one of my favorites is the new take on established characters. It's a definite must see for all ages.

The first of the Guardians series is based on Sandy, the sandman. He is my favorite character. He's very interesting especially because he doesn't talk.

When I got the Zoya Pixie Dust in Solange, I knew it was perfect for this look because it looks exactly like his dream sand.

Halloween Series: Easy Jack-O-Lantern

And so my favorite month begins! Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I love all the morbid decor and the monochromatic colors. Just everything about Halloween is fantastic!

For this year's Halloween series I'm starting off with easy designs, and each look will be more and more involved. Please let me know if you have any requests.

Mixing Textures in Blue and Gold

I recently purchased some of the new Zoya Pixie Dust polishes, and I just love the new navy blue, Sunshine. I'm not quite sure where they got that name, but it's a brilliant colour. I also picked up a polish from Estee Lauder, Brushed Gold, which is part of their Metallics collection. Its a gorgeous color, but it is quite finicky to apply. I love the contrasting textures of these polishes together.

Nerd Inspired Nail Polish

I found some fantastic nerd inspired nail polish on Etsy the other day. LynBDesigns hits all the main fandoms: Doctor Who, Sherlock, Dr. Seuss, the Princess Bride, and many more. Her polish is super cool. I ordered three polishes (this time), Time and Relative Dimension in Space from "The Doctor Is In" CollectionOobleck from the "Many Colors of Seuss" Collection, and Purple Polish of Sex from the "Baker Street" Collection. They came three days after I ordered them, and they look amazing. Today I've got "Time and Relative Dimension in Space" on. It's beautiful.

UK Makeup Haul: Collection and Rimmel

This is the last of my UK haul posts, and honestly there isn't much left to talk about. But I love Zoella's channel on Youtube, and these are a couple products she's mentioned.

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in 02 and 03

She always talks about is concealer, so I picked them up. I'm usually 02, aka, without a tan. I really like this product a lot. I've been using it everyday. It's much pinker than the MAC studio finish I've been using, and it doesn't crease as much either. It has really great coverage without using a ton of product. I highly recommend this.

I also picked up Collection Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencil in Vanilla Sky. It's super metallic and creamy to apply, but it doesn't blend well at all. It gets patchy when you try to blend it out, so I end up having to put it on first and blend a powder shadow over it. It's a great color, but I was expecting something like the Nyx Jumbo Pencils, but not so much.

Rimmel Apocalips in 303 Apocaliptic

This is another product I've seen not only Zoella raving about. Everyone into beauty seems to have one or more of these. And I'm now one of them. They are great. It lasts all day, the color stays consistent and doesn't go patchy or bleed. It's very creamy and doesn't dry your lips out at all. I've worn this quite a few times since I've been back. Another highly recommended product.

UK Makeup Haul: Bourjouis

Of course you can't have a UK makeup haul without Bourjouis bronzer. So while I was in Superdrug and/or Boots I picked up a couple of things...

BB Bronzing Creame
I saw this on display and figured I'd try it out. Have I tried it...nope not yet. So I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Bronzing Powder #52
(the darker one)

I have been using the Bronzing Powder everyday. I kid you not. I've been on a serious makeup kick since I've been back and have worn makeup almost everyday, which I usually don't, because I suck at waking up and usually don't have enough time to even eat breakfast before work. But I've been better as of late. Anyway, the Bronzing Power is fan-freaking-tastic! It doesn't go patchy and its matte which I love, because I use it as a contour, and it also looks really nice as a crease color on your eyes, for a natural look. Its great. Go buy it if you can. Seriously, this is a must-have.

Bronzing Primer
I haven't used that yet either. Looks cool, but  I'd use it for a night out look, but I've been a bit busy as of late and haven't gone out. Again, I'll get back to that soon.

Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick in Fuchsia Libre

This I saw in Zoella's Drugstore Makeup & Beauty Haul video, and since I was in the UK, could actually get my hands on it. It's really amazing. Its got a great color payoff for a gloss and it's feels like a chapstick. It's creamy, not sticky. I love it. Another must-have.

UK Makeup Haul: Barry M

Barry M was at the top of my makeup haul list. I've been eyeing their Gelly line for a while now and I was super stoked to try them out. The first one I bought waw Guava, which I got literally two hours after I arrived. Our first stop was the Trafford Centre while we waited to check into our B&B. I wore Guava first and  it lasted amazingly. I got a full week out of it with no chips. So of course I had to get more...Its a problem. Next I got Blue Grape, because it's the perfect royal blue with no glitter, which is incredibly hard to find for some reason. As well as Pomegranate, a redish pink and Ruby Glitter, black with large red hex glitter.

Pomegranate (it's a bit pinker than this picture)
Blue Grape

Ruby Glitter

And because I wanted to do Doctor Who nails for my visit to Cardiff, I got the Barry M Nail Art Pen. I had to do about 3 coats of the white to make it completely opaque, but it was really easy to use and didn't dent my polish, which is usually a problem for me. I got the white and black pens.

Illamasqua Fragile

These are the nails I did for my first day back at work. I was dead tired and this is the perfect polish for when you don't have time to do an elaborate nail, but want something interesting.

UK Makeup Haul: Illamasqua

I've been dying for some of the Im-Perfection nail varnishes since they came out, and I've had my eye on a few items from their Paranormal collection, so I went a bit mad at the Illamasqua counter in Selfridges. This was the damage:

 ESP lipstick
Seance which is a UV Glow nail polish

UK Makeup Haul: Sleek

While I was in England I made a point to visit Superdrug and Boots and pick up some makeup I had a hard time finding at home. Superdrug carries Sleek, which you can order online (which I didn't know till recently) but to avoid shipping, I waited till my vacation to stock up. I was super excited to pick these bad boys up, but...I haven't really used them yet. Most of the vacation we were out and I didn't have time to do any involved makeup looks, but now that I'm home I'm going to try to experiment with them.

The Who Shop

This week we went to The Who Shop just outside London. It was pretty cool. They have props from the series in a mini museum in the back of the shop. You get to go through the TARDIS to get in. It was super cute.
Obviously, I was pretty excited. The TARDIS is actually pretty tall.

So are the Daleks...they are huge. I dunno why, but I thought they would be smaller. Its adorable, it has a sign on it that says "Do not touch or you will be exterminated".

I didn't spend as much as I thought I would, but I did a bit of damage. It's probably a good thing though because we're also going to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff. (Tomorrow! Yay!)

Photos of what I purchased after the break...

UK Nail Haul: Day One

The first place we stopped straight from the airport was the Trafford Center. There I stopped in Boots and Selfridges to pick up some nail supplies. At Boots I picked up one of the Barry M Gelly polishes (in Guava, it's more teal than it looks in the picture). I might go back and pick up a few more if I really like them. They had some cute colors.

Then we stopped in Selfridges for the Illamasqua counter. I restrained myself and only got 4 polishes and that was it. I didn't even pick up any makeup (yet...). I got three from the I'mperfection collection and their Matte top coat. I cannot wait to swatch these! I've been holding back on ordering them because I knew I was going to be visiting soon. Yay!
