Supakitch inspired Munny!

I got 4 blank Munnys in November. I intended to paint them for gifts for my siblings & cousins, but I never got around to it. I had designed a Supakitch inspired Munny, and I finally got around to working on it.

Now, I've never done this before, so it's been all trial and error. I looked up some different techniques on the internets, and just decided to go with acrylic paint. Mainly because I already know how to use it, and also because I had some in my basement :)

This is my drawing I started with. It's inspired by the fox in this video:

which if you regularly read my blog, will know I'm obsessed with this video. This is a collaboration by two street artists Supakitch and Koralie. You can check out their store Metroplastique.
Anyway, on to the process.... I haven't looked at the original illustration or video in a couple of months, so I was going purely off memory when I started painting. I like to work this way because it melds into something similar, but not an exact copy of the original.

First I sketched out in pencil an underdrawing.

Then I tried to 'watercolor' the head. I tried watercolors, but they just rolled off. So I went and got my acrylics, and it worked so much better. I wanted a spatter texture on the head, so I added a bit of water to the acrylics and dabbed it on with a dome brush.

I started off with purple and just experimented with the water to paint ratio till I got a result I liked.

Then I added some yellow ochre and bright blue splatters till I was happy with it.

Then I moved on to the body. The paint was applying in a really weird way, and I got a pretty cool texture out of it. I kinda like it.
This is as far as I got today. It took me about 3 hours. Stay tuned for more updates :)

Hunger Games Nails: Effie Trinket 'Reaping Nails

Effie Trinket inspired nails. These are the nails she had for the Reaping of District 12. The pink I used is a bit brighter than what she had, hers are more fuschia. I achieved this design by putting 2 coats of pink, letting them dry completely, and then with a sponge stippling on a gold glitter polish. The first coat I started at the top and worked down about 3/4 of the nail. Then a second coat going only half way down. And the final coat just at the tips. Then in true 'Capitol Style' I painted the underside of my nails gold. I don't think they did this in the movie, but its a nice nod to the books.

And I know my cuticles are totally beat up. Thats what happens when you constantly work with chemicals and paper. I've used every cuticle cream I could find, but nothing works. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment.
What I used:

Seche Vite base coat
Forever 21 Love & Beauty (edit: the closest match I could find is Forever 21 'Fuchsia'; it's not an exact match, just a hair on the orange side)
a wedge sponge
China Glaze  'Midnight Kiss'
Seche Vite top coat

Edit: A more exact match for Effie's base color is Forever 21 Love & Beauty 'Fuchsia Purple'. I got it today (4/27), so if you want it go get it now because they won't have it next week.

Fortune Cookie Hunger Games Haul

As I am currently obsessed with all things Hunger Games related, when I saw that Fortune Cookie Soaps had a Hunger Games themed collection I went and bought almost all of it. When I ordered mine, about 10 days ago 'Hair of the Dog' body wash was sold out, but now its available (how annoying!). That was the one item I wanted, but couldn't get. They also have 'Tiny Tribute' shampoo bar, and 'Bakers Dozen' fortune cookie soap.

The thing that annoyed me right off the bat was that the sample they sent with my order leaked out all over everything. A fine coating of the bath tart was dusted all over everything.
This is the 'Capitol Diamond' bath fizz inspired by Effie Trinket's character. It's an intense glitter bath bomb and it smells like Dubble Bubble bubblegum. Its kind of awesome. There is so much glitter I got it all over when I took it out of the double packaging. It's quite huge too (10oz).
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Pure Dead Sea Salt, Magnesium Sulfate, Sweet Almond Oil, Fragrance and/or Essential Oils, Color

This is the 'Cashmere' bubbling bath crystals inspired by Cinna. It also has glitter in it and the smell is...velvety. That isn't a smell, but I'm not really sure how else to describe it.

Ingredients: Sodium Chloride (Sea Salt), Dead Sea Salt, Lathanol (a mild Surfactant), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract,Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A Palmitate), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C Palmitate)
'Coal Hearted' bath melt inspired by Gale. Its very creamy feeling and smells like spice, I'm not sure which spice it is, but it's not the graphite smell I was expecting.

Ingredients: Kokum Butter, Shea Butter, Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Magnesium Sulfate, Pure Dead Sea Salt, Kaolin Clay, Fragrance and/or Essential Oils, Color
The only thing I don't like about these, before I've even used them is that the coal was crumbling in my hands before I even got it out of the bag.

'Hunter Green' whipped cream inspired by Katniss. Personally I'd have done something different, probably more fire themed than the whipped cream. It smells 'naturey' and is quite plain. I liked it much better once I put it on. The smell wasn't so intense, and lasted almost 4 hours, which I liked.

Oddly, there are no ingredients listed on this one :(

Overall my favorite item was the 'Capitol Diamond'. Its exactly what I would expect for Effie's character, and the smell was spot on. Flashback to Halloween as a kid. Once I use these I'll post about my feelings then. I think they might change a bit, especially in regards to the bath melt.
