Hotspur~ Annie Reuter Writes About Hotspur!

Band of the Week: Hotspur

With their arena friendly choruses and infectious vocals, it is no wonder that Hotspur recently won MTVu's The Freshman for catchy single "Chandelier." Currently in rotation on MTVu, "Chandelier" mixes high energy pop rock with polished musical interludes bringing to mind bands including Fall Out Boy and Boys Like Girls.

I caught Hotspur's energetic performance at The Studio at Webster Hall last Monday where I met a few fans who drove three hours to witness their set, promising me a good show. The band impressed and despite the small stage setup, Hotspur are a band I expect to see selling out arenas in a few years. Whether it was frontman Joe Mach jumping off the drum kit or minute long instrumental breaks, those that stuck around long after midnight for their performance left the venue satisfied with the promise of another New York show in the near future.

While the majority of their songs include high energy and power pop tendencies, ballads such as "Heads/Tails" are a welcomed and unexpected change, proving Hotspur's prowess as musicians and songwriters. In fact, it is the tales behind their tracks that leave an impact on the listener. Their storytelling includes vivid imagery and their lyrics exemplify pop songwriting at it's best.

Enough to make any girl swoon, on "$$$" Mach sings, "There's not enough money in the world/To make me forget you girl/And nobody else in the world makes me feel like you." Move over Fall Out Boy, Hotspur is well on their way.

Watch Hotspur's video below for "Chandelier" and be sure to visit them on MySpace where you can download their entire catalog for free on Halloween.

Reccomended: For fans of Boys Like Girls, Fall Out Boy, Lights Resolve.

Hotspur Wins MTVU 'Freshman' Vote!

We did it! And it's all thanks to you! The incredible rallying of support by all of our amazing fans, family and friends was truly something to behold. We can not begin to explain how deeply we are moved by your love and support! To reduce your lives to becoming clicking zombies literally around the clock just to help us succeed and further our careers truly validates all of our hard work and suffering.

We are so fired up for the coming months and the next few tours. We have seen a tremendous growth in just this past week let a lone that last few months of people surrounding the band and fans coming to shows. Let's continue to take this band straight to the top. We promise that we will remember every one of you and that there is a special place in Hotspur world for everyone who has ever helped us through these trying times!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! We promise we will never turn you into zombie clickers again (at least not for a little while!!)

Here's a little re-cap of the competition:

Day One: Voting polls open with a frenzy of activity. Chino and Hotspur come out sprinting. However, Hotspur is in NYC playing a show and does not have internet access for an entire day. Fans hold it down with little or no encouragement. Chino takes the lead.
Day Two: Hotspur has the internet! Rallies fan support and votes. Dave does not sleep for at least 36 hours. Gap narrows significantly. Chino still in the lead. People suspect cheating.
Day Three: Intense rallying around Hotspur. 100s of people voting around the clock slaving to the click, click, click, click, click, click, click....Hotspur and Chino neck and neck. Hours of voting non-stop produce no change in score. Brutal.
Day Four: Hotspur takes the lead over night. Obviously our fans are completely insane and incredibly dedicated. Minds turn to mush, behinds get sore, fingers stop working, eyes become crosseyed. Yet still they click, click, click, click. At this point everyone I know, scores and scores of fans and random ass family notify that they have been voting literally non-stop for days! Hotspur takes a commanding lead.
Day Five: Hotspur has a huge lead in the final hours of the contest yet people continue to vote out of sheer determination to ensure that this ends in our favor. Victory announced, tears flow, vomiting ensues, sleep deprivation is so bad that people can't even go to sleep (they've forgotten how!). Hotspur plays a private party and then has they're own private party! Sleep...............

What a weird week! We look to the future with hope and optimism. You all have really made us happy and we can't wait to give it back to you! We are making our entire catalog of music downloadable for free for one day as a token of our gratitude. We'll keep you posted as to when that will be.

See you on the road!

LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Animation...test 1

This is my first test shot for my silhouette paper cutout animation. I know the zoom out is a little wonky...the camera stand isn't the best, but I'm going to re-shoot it and use the manual zoom from a cooler better camera (that I still have to learn how to use). Also I hate how you can see the edge of the transparency at around 0:26 sec so my prof. suggested I use black sand. I think that thats a great idea, and I'll have more tests on that on Friday. Please let me know what you think (other than what my criticisms are). Thanks Guys!!!!

MAC Review~ New Products and Holiday Collection

Mineralize Eye Shadow~Cinderfella ($19.50)
This is from their 'Style Black' collection. I really liked the 'Young Punk' shadow as well, but the 'Cinderfella' was more practical for me. The creme color base (which is black) will crease if you wear it all day, so I got the 'Blackground' Paint Pot instead (which won't crease and acts as a primer for whatever shadow you put over it). They have a new black lipstick called 'Black Knight' although it's not for everyday wear and a bit on the expensive side for costume makeup.
Paint Pot~Delft (Above)
Mineralize Eye Shadow~ Young Punk (Above)

Greasepaint Stick ($17.50) is also in the 'Style Black' collection. It's water proof, so its perfect for lining your water line, and smudges well enough to get the smoky effect, but it doesn't smudge like the Eye Kohl does. (TIP: the Eye Kohl tends to smudge down your eyes as the day goes on. If you set it with black eye shadow and/or use a primer before you apply it, it will stay in place all day, and you won't have to touch it up or re-apply)

Paint Pot~Blackground ($16.50)
They finally have a newish black Paint Pot....which they didn't have last spring when I went to get it. I haven't tried it yet, but tomorrow I'll post a picture of it. (I've got a hot date tomorrow XD) Overall though Paint Pot is a great primer to use before any shadow. If you only want to get one universal primer, get the Paint Pot 'Bare Study' (I've been using it till now under all my looks...It keeps everything in place. I was at the Renaissance Faire this summer in 90 degree weather with an INTENSE amount of makeup on, and it didn't smudge or smear ALL DAY! I highly reccomend Paint Pot for anyone who wears makeup. Yeah its on the more expensive side, but I've had mine for over 6 months now and I've barely used any of it, because you only need a thin layer and it's very potent, like all MAC Products)

They have also brought back the 'Sharkskin' Shadestick ($16.50) (which they phased out last spring) due to popular demand.

They have also released their new Holiday Collection which includes a new Color Collection, several new Lip, Eye, and Face Kits, Lip and Eye bags, and Brush Bags. I haven't purchased any of these yet, I'm looking at getting the Lipstick 'Utter Fun'. Most of the Holiday Colors are a bit to pale for my tastes, but my little sis would probably look great in this palette. The first week of November there will be some more New products.

Rupert Grint~ Wizard of Real Estate!

Rupert Grint, Wizard of Real Estate
By Jaime Derringer Oct 5th 2009 12:30PMrupert grint, harry potter star, ron weasley

Rupert Grint is no Harry Potter, but he might just be the wizard of real estate. The 21-year-old, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter flicks has racked up quite an impressive property investment portfolio. According to The Daily Mail Grint owns £9.2 million (over $14 million) worth of propertymortgage-free! Grint's co-star, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), has property worth an estimated £7 million, and co-star Emma Watson (Hermione) has property worth £4 million. It's nice to see younger actors planning and investing wisely in their future. Let's face it -- who knows how long Rupert can ride the Harry Potter gravy train?

So how did he spend his £9.2 million? Grint purchased a 22-acre 18th-century
Hertfordshire manor house for £5.4 million in September. The home features two cottages and six bedroom suites. He can definitely throw some killer parties in this house!

Previously, Grint was living with his family (parents, brother and three sisters) in another home in Hertfordshire, which Grint also owns. He purchased the house back in 2006 for £3.35 million. Grint bought another detached home with his father in April 2008 and received a permit for expansion.

Grint isn't the only one in the family in the real estate game. His parents also own a few large properties. In June 2003 they purchased a £975,000 house and in the same year bought a farmhouse nearby for £2 million.
