500 Days of Summer Review

,Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't.'

I saw this movie ,500 Days of Summer' today and I loved it! Its an offbeat romantic comedy about a girl who doesn't believe true love exists, and the guy who falls for her. Its got a really interesting plot and isn't the 'typical' romantic comedy. I highly recommend this movie for everyone!

Directed by Marc Webb
Written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber

Starring:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom Hansen (male lead)
Zooey Deschanel as Summer Finn (female lead)

Tarot Cards

So at the Bristol Renaissance Faire I got a deck of tarot cards. I love all things extraordinary and tarot falls into that category.  I got an amazing deck by the artist Paulina Cassidy.  When I saw this deck I just thought it was amazing.  The artwork was so beautiful that I just had to get it.  I had been wanting a tarot deck for some time, but none of them ever seemed right till this one. I'm extremely pleased with it and I'm currently working on memorizing the rest of the meanings of the cards. I've only gotten about half way through so far....since I'm usually only able to work on it when I'm off of school. Here are some of my favorite cards from the deck.

You can see more of Paulina Cassidy's work at her website. She does prints, books, cards, tarot decks, and original art.

Bones!

So when I went downtown I visited this shop called Reckless Records where I found a used copy of ,Bones' Seasons 1 ($17.99) and 2 (24.99). At ,Best Buy' they run at $39.99 (season 1) and  49.99 (season 2). And the discs are in almost perfect condition! You can , Buy Sell & Trade CDs, Records, DVDs, Videogames, Videos and more!' They sell their merchandise at very reasonable prices, and its a great place to find some unusual or hard to find items. You can also shop online at their website. They ship all over the US, but I'm not sure if they ship overseas, you'd have to give them a call about that.  They are a really great store and if you're a movie/music addict then you should definitely check this place out!

,The Ugly Truth' Review

So I saw ,The Ugly Truth' tonight.  I thought it was a really funny movie and its much better than I thought it would be.  The trailer doesn't give away too much of the movie, though the ending is somewhat predictable its cute at the same time.  Its totally a chick-flick, but its cute. If you like movies like ,Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist' and ,10 Things I Hate About You' then I'd recommend this movie.  Its the rated R version of these movies.

Official Tokio Hotel Announcement about ,,HUMANOID"

The official press release on the new album! (Sorry its a day late guys....clearly I'm a bit slow)

,After many speculations over the past month, it is finally official – Tokio Hotel’s third studio album will be released worldwide in the beginning of October 2009 and the title will be „Humanoid“. The word HUMANOID originated in Science Fiction and means „human like“. The pronounciation for HUMANOID is different in English and in German but it’s spelt exactly the same. Tokio Hotel’s debut album was titled SCHREI in Germany but in America it was released as SCREAM. Bill Kaulitz: „For our new album I wanted to have only one name worldwide.“'

Feta Cheese Fondue Recipe!

So tonight we're doing Fondue! And I am the fondue queen. My aunt got me the book ,fondue' by Robert Carmack for Christmas last year and it has all kinds of fondue recipes, but the chocolate sections is kinda pathetic. It has an abundance of cheese and meat fondue recipes though.  Tonight I made the ,Feta Cheese Melt' which is amazing. I've made it so many times I know the recipe by heart! The recipe for this is:

4 tablespoons (2 oz/60 g) butter
1/4 cup (2 fl/60 ml) olive oil
8oz (250 g) feta cheese crumbled (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup (8fl oz/250 ml) milk, scalded
2 tablespoons potato flour or cornstarch (cornflour) mixed with 2 tablespoons water
6 oz (180 g) canned crabmeat or shrimp (optional)

and pita bread, cucumber slices, broccoli, kalamata olives, red peppers for dipping

In a small, heavy saucepan, melt butter with the oil over medium heat. Add cheese, stirring until melted. It will be creamy, but no smooth.  Stir in milk, cooking until mixture is mostly smooth. Stir in the flour or cornstarch mixture.  Stir in optional crabmeat or shrimp and transfer to a warmed fondue pot. Let cool for 5-10 minutes until warm. Enjoy!\

From my experience, you need to add an extra one or two teaspoons of the cornstarch because it never is thick enough for me. But don't over do it, remember that the cheese will harden up as it cools off too.  Its a really great recipe so I hope you all enjoy it!

Coraline out on DVD!

,Coraline' just came out on DVD today, and I went and got myself the 2 Disc Special Edition. It is one of the most amazing stop motion animations I have ever seen! Stop motion animation is my specialty so I was especially amazed because I know just how much work was involved with making this movie. You think you know, but before you have actually created a small stop motion animated film, you have NO IDEA how much work it is. I thought I knew, and then I took my stop motion class...and then got no sleep all semester because I was up night and day working on my animation projects. Its totally worth it once you're done, but while you're working you just want to die.  So this movie is very amazing, but it is NOT FOR CHILDREN!  It is very scary for children under the ages of 10.  The basic plot is:

,A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life - only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home - and save her family'

Directed by Henry Selick
Written by Henry Selick (screenplay) and Neil Gaiman (book)

Stars:
Dakota Fanning as Coraline Jones (voice)
Teri Hatcher as Mother/Other Mother (voice)
Jennfier Saunders as Miss Spink  (voice)
Dawn French as Miss Forcible  (voice)
Keith David as Cat  (voice)
John Hodgman as Father/Other Father  (voice)
Robert Bailey Jr. as Wybie Lovat  (voice)
Ian McShane as Mr. Bobinsky  (voice)

New Nail Stuff!

So I went shopping today and got Nail Envy by OPI, which I read about on the blog called Scrangie, which is written by the nail guru. So if she recommends it, it must work! I'm putting it on tonight and in a few weeks I'll review how it works! I also got this really crazy blue color called ,Blue Lace' from Nicole by OPI. The picture doesn't due the color justice though, I'll post a better one once I redo my nails.

Illamasqua! New UK Makeup Brand

Oh my goodness! I think I'm in love! Usually I'm  a MAC girl through and through, but I found out about this newish brand called Illamasqua, from the UK and they are amazing! There is a TON of makeup art on their site. I haven't had a chance to try out their products yet, but my dad and little bro are going to Manchester this August and I'm giving them a list of the products I want (which you can order online, except for a few products which they are working on making available) which they are bringing back for me, so as soon as I've tried them out I will do a review on them. If anyone has a specific product which they want me to review post a comment or send me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do! :)

Jeff Dunham Spark of Insanity

This is a clip from Jeff Dunham's show in DC, ,Spark of Insanity'.  Jeff Dunham is a ventriloquist comedian. He has several very funny puppets he comically brings to life. My favorite puppet is named 'Walter' and is a bitter, sarcastic old man. I love this guy! He's really funny!

Big Movie Premiere~ Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price

So you can watch the full episode (33 min) of the ,Big Movie Premiere' Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince episode. It has exclusive interviews with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), Rupert Grint (Ron), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley). They also have clips of the London Premiere of the movie where there was a torrential downpour, with Rupert Grint pulling of the 'wet look' very nicely. They also have sneak peeks behind the scenes of Half Blood Prince.

Watch it on youtube HERE!

Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione) Interview

Oh my goodness! This is such a cute interview! Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, stars of the Harry Potter series talk about the movie, their kiss in the upcoming movie (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1) and also future plans.  They are both amazing actors and I cant wait to see Rupert's newest movie 'Cherrybomb' which is supposedly coming out in the Fall of 2009. It is a Brittish movie, so we might have a hard time finding it in the theaters here in the US.

Makeup from Tutorial!

So this is my makeup for today! I based it off of xsparkage's tutorial 'Dark Side of the Moon: Smokey Black and Violet' (the tutorial in the previous post). Check out her channel on youtube! She be good!

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) Interview

This is an interview with Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series.  He did a fantastic job in the most recently released ,Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince'.  His portrayal of the previously hated character Draco makes us all love Draco, and turns the character in a much more believable human being. Good job Tom Felton! I look forward to seeing him in movies other than Harry Potter

My Harry Potter Obsession

So I started reading the Harry Potter series when I was 10 and quickly became obsessed with it...as all children do, and for christmas when I was 14 (I think?) my parents got me a lovely expensive Wand! Being the nerd that I am, I still love it, and think it is fantastical :P

So this is the wand that they got me, if you're obsessed about Harry Potter like I am, you can get yourself an amazing wand at Alivan's Wand Shop. Be warned though, they are quite pricey! Ranging from $21.99 to $105.99, they are all made out of solid wood and the prices vary due to the quality of the wood. Have fun!

New Book~ 'When Royals Wore Ruffles'

So at work this morning I found the funniest alphabet book ever! Its called ,When Royals Wore Ruffles: a funny and fashionable alphabet!' and it is like it says, a fashion themed alphabet book! It has pages like 'C is for couture' and 'V is for vanity'. This book is perfect for the fashion inclined kindergartner. It not only lists very amusing fashion terms, but it also explains what the terms mean and why they're important in fashion. For example one of the pages is: 'G is for go-go boots! The 1960s~a fashion revolution! The MOD look invaded America on a British model named Twiggy, who was an icon of the Mod generation and wore a minishirt, fishnet tights, white lipstick and shiny white go-go boots.  Overnight everyone was going mod: kids, moms, even the president's wife! People went berserk for the Beatles and learned to dance the twist." This is the cutest book and I'm going to pick one up the first chance I get!

Amazing Boots!

I found these boots at Starlets & Harlets ($60.04 w/o shipping) and fell in love with them. I found them for cheaper ($45.31 w/o shipping) though at rivithead.com.  The only downside is that they don't make half sizes, so you're better off with getting the bigger size. I'm usually a 8.5 womans (40 Euro) and I got a size 9 and they fit real well with a pair of socks.  They also have different patters like zebra and pinstripes. Go check them out and get yourself some AMAZING boots!

Vivienne Zip Jacket

So this is a Vivienne Westwood Zip Jacket and I WANT IT! It runs about $265 on sale. And .... ,The collar of this piece allows for several diferent look, wear the collar down for an open look, fastened to create a wrap around style or zipped up for a high collar.  The Jacket has four pockets on the front, two of which are secured with a zip. Made in Italy.  98% Cotton, 2% Spandex.  Lining 60% Viscose, 40% Cupro'  If you're lucky enough to be able to afford this jacket you can order it at Hervia.com

Current Readings

So I work at a library, which is a good job when you're going to school. And as I was putting some books away I found the strangest children's book. Its a series called ,Edgar & Ellen' by Charles Ogden.  I haven't started them yet, but I have books 1-6. They average about 110pgs each.  Apparently there is also a cartoon based on the books, but I haven't seen them myself.  So if you're into very strange almost gothic children's books I'd definitely check these books out. They run about $9.95 depending on where you get them. You can get them at Borders or Barnes & Noble

Vivienne Westwood SALE!

Vivienne Westwood is my absolute FAVORITE designer ever! In 1974 Westwood and Malcom McLaren opened a little shop in London, England called SEX, spelt out in large pink letters.  She designed all the clothes for The Sex Pistols and was the epitome of Punk fashion.  She was the first British designer ever to participate in the Paris Fashion Week. She is absolutely amazing and has various couture boutiques through out the world, though none in the US. BUT!!!! You can order from a boutique in Manchester England at Hervia.com and if you order at the right time they often have free shipping, even overseas!

Right now Hervia is having a SALE on all Spring Summer 09 Collections! You can check out all the great sales HERE!

Enjoy!

The New Harry Potter Movie

The absolutely amazing Helena Bonham Carter! From the 5th Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. The new movie is absolutely amazing! I love it! I saw it at 12am the day it came out! I love it! She did an absolutely amazing job as Bellatrix Lestrange!

Star Shoes

This is 8x11 and done in Prisma Color Markers.

MAC Hello Kitty Reflects Glitter Review

This is an absolutely awful picture...but it'll have to do.  These are my MAC Hello Kitty inspired eyes.  I tested out their new Hello Kitty Reflects Glitter ~ Very Pink.  The glitter is very fine and will stick somewhat well to the Paint Pot base. However if you use a wet or sticky base, like lipstick or liquid shadow, it stays on better and is much more pigmented. But, be careful what color base you use because the glitter is not a solid color and you can see the base shadow through the glitter. You can also put the glitter over lipstick and top that with clear lip gloss for some dazzlingly pink lips. So if you like very glittery makeup this is definitely a product I would recommend!

What I used:

MAC Paint Pot~ Bare Study
MAC Eye Khol~ Smolder
MAC Reflects Glitter~ Very Pink
MAC Eye Shadow~ Forgery
Clinique Mascara~ High Definition Brush Then Comb

Checkered Nails

You can achieve this checkered pattern by drawing a hatch pattern on your nails and then filling in every other box. Its easier to do the base coat white, because coloring white over black takes more coats of polish, and they also don't make any good white nail pens
